Thomas Arvid was born in Detroit, MI where his aptitude for art led him to pursue a career in sign painting.〔Ryan, 2003, p. 114.〕 In 1986, Arvid, who is self-taught, moved to Atlanta, GA to discover alternatives to the industrial work his hometown provided.〔Coble, Sarah FK. “Palette for Palate”.
